Wages payable by 7th of next month (under 1,000 workers) or 10th (1,000 plus) under the Payment of Wages Act, 1936. Overtime at twice the ordinary rate under Section 14.

Cost of Underpayment in Maharashtra
Section 22 of the Minimum Wages Act, 1948 applies. Maharashtra Labour Department runs frequent surprise inspections, especially in Mumbai, Pune, and Nagpur industrial zones.
High-Risk Maharashtra Sectors
- Construction (Mumbai, Pune metro)
- Garments and textiles (Solapur, Ichalkaranji)
- Retail and hospitality (Mumbai, Pune)
- Security and housekeeping (statewide)
- Pharma and engineering (MIDC zones)
Mumbai-registered companies with workers in another state must follow that state's rates, not Maharashtra rates.
